Jimmy Bennett
Senior Minister

Jimmy is originally from Chatham, Virginia. He and his wife, Shelby, both graduated from Roanoke Bible College, Elizabeth City, NC, in 1966. They ministered in Salisbury, MD from 1966 until August of 1972, when they accepted the call to come to Avalon. Jimmy has served as Senior Minister of Avalon over 35 years. He serves on the board of trustees for his alma mater and has served on several missionary boards. Jimmy and Shelby have one son, Jeff. Jeff and his wife Lisa have two girls, Madison and Macy. Jeff and his family minister with a congregation in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

 

Malcolm Puckett
Associate Minister

Malcolm is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Bible from Roanoke Bible College and a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Regent University. Since 1982 he has served congregations in Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. Malcolm has enjoyed consulting and working with numerous nonprofit organizations during the last 20 years including the American Cancer Society, International Disaster Emergency Services (IDES), Camp Rudolph and Mid-Atlantic Christian University. Malcolm and his wife Debbie have one son, Tyler.

 

 

Spenser Haskett
Youth Minister

Spenser is originally from South Boston, Virginia. He graduated from Mid-Atlantic Christian University in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible and Theology with a minor in Youth Ministry. Spenser is happily married to his wife, Allie, and enjoys playing sports and spending time with the youth group. His favorite food is chocolate pie, so if you want to make him some some, he'll take it!

 

 

Stephen Brooks
Director of Music & Worship

Stephen was born and raised in Chesapeake and has been a member at Avalon since he was born. He is a senior at Mid-Atlantic Christian University (formerly Roanoke Bible College) and is concentrating his degree in music and worship. He and his wife, Annalie, a graduate from Purdue University in Indiana, met on an archaelogical dig in Jordan, led by her Uncle, Bob Smith who is one of Stephen's professors at MACU. Stephen enjoys playing volleyball and going to the beach.

 

 

Jenny Kamm
Children’s Director

Jenny is originally from Arkansas City, KS. She joined the Avalon ministry team in 2010. Jenny and her husband, JR, found their way to Virginia by way of the Navy. Jenny loves working with children and is looking forward to the rewarding experience of teaching children of Jesus Christ. Jenny and her husband, JR, have two children, Haley and Zach.

 

 

Lisa Backer
Administrative Assistant

Lisa Backer is the newest member of the Avalon team.  She attended Avalon when she was younger and was active in the Avalon youth group.  Lisa and her husband, Ace have three sons, Ace, Caleb and Jett.
